Four (4) TDEM Mobile ICU/Emergency Room Facilities in Texas
The Texas Department of Emergency Management is the state of Texas run governmental agency located in Austin Texas to handle emergency situations. This agency manages all of Texas’s emergency responses from Pandemics to all Natural Disasters (Hurricanes, Floods, Tornados, etc.). Due to the Pandemic of 2019 (COVID 19) this agency was in desperate need to obtain Intensive Care Unit (ICU) capacity for their citizens suffering from COVID 19. Therefore, they worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to purchase multiple Mobile ICUs to handle this state of emergency.
As a perfect solution to this problem, they purchased 4 ea. Mobile ICUs from Mobile Healthcare Facilities. This solution was much more efficient and cost effective to both the state and the United States Government.
In addition to a short-term solution to combat COVID 19, the state of Texas looked at their long-term mission of Disaster Response/Relief. Therefore, they worked with Mobile Healthcare Facilities to design their facilities to quickly be converted from an ICU (fighting COVID 19) to Mobile Emergency Departments (ED) with multiple Emergency Rooms in each facility. They also added soft walled structures on each side of the Mobile ED facility so they could triple the medical space so it could be utilized for Triage and Minor Injury treatment of injured citizens suffering from the natural disaster.
